Without doubt, Chaz Bundick (aka Toro Y Moi) is one of the most uniquely talented and creative young musicians on the rise. Quickly emerging as a buzzworthy favorite among both fans and critics alike, the young producer/performer has been linked to the chillwave movement. Even though his 2nd full release, Underneath The Pine, was released in February, Toro also just released a new EP, Freaking Out. One of his songs, “Still Sounds”, was recently used in the season premiere episode of HBO’s 8th and final season of Entourage.

Bass Drum of Death is a 2 piece from Mississippi. Together they make blown-out, blazing songs. Their songs are about drugs, trying to make it with religious girls, panic attacks, stealing stuff, mild to severe depression, Elvis appearing in your dreams and giving you advice, gravity bongs and the devil living inside your brain. This record is the soundtrack playing in your head when you're fucked up and walking home in the middle of the night. They recently played with MellowHype, of Odd Future Wolfgang fame.

Unknown Mortal Orchestra first dropped into the world in late 2010 as a bandcamp account carrying a single called "Ffunny Ffrends". It was everything you imagined it might be – alien beatnik pop music that echoed 60s psychedelia and krautrock minimalism with just a hint of gentle weirdness that suggested its roots might equally lie in the verdant indie of the equally distant New Zealand scene. Ruban Nielson is a New Zealand native who had transplanted to Portland as an escape hatch to a new musical dimension Out of the home studio, Ruban was joined by local Portland producer Jake Portrait on bass and teenage prodigy Julien Ehrlich on drums. They were last in Dallas opening for Portugal. The Man.

Ben Gibbard and Chris Walla may be well known now, but that wasn't always the case. Dating all the way back to pre 9-11, DCFC could be responsible for the rising popularity indie music has today. Just as Nirvana paved the way for alternative music, it could be argued that this group made it possible for bands like MGMT, Vampire Weekend, and Foster The People to exist today. The band's latest album, Codes and Keys, was released on May 31. Opening band Frightened Rabbit are from Glasgow, Scotland. They have toured with DCFC previously in 2008, for their UK & Irish tour. Their last record came out in 2010.

It's not too hard to imagine 311 and Sublime With Rome touring together this summer. Both popular bands have recently released new records this year, and are touring the nation together in support. 311 is headlining, after releasing Universal Pulse less than a month ago. They have sold over 8 million records worldwide. Sublime With Rome recorded together for the very first time. Working with ButtHole Surfers' Paul Leary, Yours Truly was released in July also. Opening the concert will be both DJ Soulman And DJ Trichrome. You can imagine the only thing greater than the heat at this show will be the smoke.
